Got these bad boys and girl in the mail the other day.
very dissapointed that bugs have severely Damaged the darker one (I dint pay much for them and the shooter had never skinned a dog out before so it was kind of expected). Hopefully the bottom half of the skin will still be useable but the top half, the leather is chewed right through in places.... Got them in the cool room now to kill any bugs I missed
The other two should be ok though, even though there are some chunks of meat left on them where she didn't skin them too well but fingers crossed they don't slip!
Pretty pumped to have them though! Been chasing some dogs for a long time!
Chasing a new tanning recipe if anyone has suggestions? Have been using a very easy chrome tan from DS Horne but it was tipped out by the girl I live with, while I was away, and it's getting too expensive with the amount im tanning, so looking for something cheap and easy I can buy in town or online...
NOTE: these are FERAL dogs that are completely legal to shoot in Australia. You actually get PAID a bounty by for helping to control the popuation. (They are NOT dingoes, which are protected, even though I may refer to them as dingos from time to time because... Well because I like to!). They are devastating sheep and cattle industries all over the countries and are shot to protect our livestock. I did not shoot them but would not hesitate given the chance. Unless you've seen a calf come in with the entire topside chewed out, or had to kill a sheep that had been left alive with her guts hanging out on the floor, you have no right to pass judgement. I get that it's difficult for some people to understand killing the 'cute little puppies', but it is out of kindness to our livestock.
